During the ceremony I learned that Kara and Aaron had been dating since high school and had spent a significant amount of time apart while Aaron served overseas. The ceremony included some readings from letters they sent to each other during that time, and they were so touching.

The wedding took place on 4th of July weekend, but the dinner served was a family style Thanksgiving dinner. Fabulous merger of two US holidays, and the food was delicious!

Jennifer and Brian had their reception in Connecticut at Tamarack Country Club, set in the luxurious and beautiful country roads of Greenwich, CT. During the toasts I learned that Jennifer’s father caddied at this club as a teen, along with her uncles. I’m sure that this is one of the reasons they chose this location to celebrate their marriage with family and friends.

Bumped into two past bridesmaids from two different weddings over the years at this event. It’s always fun to see familiar faces!

I am very much looking forward to shooting Jennifer’s sister’s wedding next year!

PS. Apples are a part of the wedding, so of course they brought a picture perfect apple to photograph!

Thursday the 15th I walked around Amsterdam all day and evening, capturing lots of fun images with my Canon 5D, my wide angle lens, and my favorite lens, a “toy” lens by Lens Baby. Little did I know, because I was paying zero attention to the news, that flights were cancelled and chaos was waiting around the corner for me!

The next morning I got up very early, walked down the quiet streets of the city before rush hour would begin, and hopped the train to the airport. When I got to the airport I still had no idea! I walked up to information to find out where the check-in area was only to be told the airport was closed! Closed?! I was told that the volcano in Iceland had erupted and flights were cancelled indefinitely and a train would be near impossible to find at this point. Thankfully, with a bit of a re-route to Brussels, and some long lines, I got to Paris to meet my friend! However, I had missed out on my day in London. Dang that volcano!

At the time I had no idea I would end up seeing London after all, as well the English country side, because my flight home was also cancelled! I ended up coming home 6 days after, and had to fly to Newark, NJ and take the Amtrak to Boston. The first flight to Logan was May 2nd! As I write this, I’d just be getting to the airport at Heathrow to come home if I had taken that flight, hard to believe.

With quite a bit of added stress, a touch of chaos, and many unplanned train rides, this turned out to be one of the most exciting trips of my life thus far! Initially I was set to see Amsterdam, London, and then Paris. The adventure turned into seeing Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, London, and northern England.
